Mustaches For Kids Denver

Welcome Growers to M4K 2009!

November 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We are doing this AGAIN and fully expect your support…. and by support, we mean YOU are going to grow a mustache (and raise money for kids). For the 2nd year, the Denver chapter of Mustaches for Kids will be raising money for Donors Choose (www.donorschoose.org), a very simple, and very effective non-profit that directly funds projects that teachers request in often woefully underfunded schools around the country and right here in the Denver metro area. We get to choose exactly to which projects and classrooms donations will go. The Mile High Mustaches Chapter will be conducting weekly checkpoint meetings at the Tavern Wash Park which has graciously agreed to accommodate this top lip tomfoolery. AND the winner of the Best Stache WILL RECEIVE FREE BEER FOR 1 YEAR!!!!

Update from the Brustache!

December 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just got this update from one of our finest growers, check it out:
To all my loyal supporters,

I have been growing this mustache for almost 4 weeks and the toughest part is now behind me.  Weeks 2 and 3 were very itchy, but I pulled through with the support of friends and family.

I notice that people treat me differently now.  They are not as friendly as they were a few weeks ago, and they tend to steer clear of me on sidewalks.

I guess I just don’t look like the nice guy that I used to:

Having a mustache is much harder that I had originally expected.  Here is what I have learned:

Stache Rash: This is the red rash that results for scratching an itchy mustache:
stacherash

Stache Ash: This results from letting the ash from whatever you’re smoking fall into your mustache:
stacheash

Stache Trash: These are the things that get stuck in my mustache throughout the day with out me realizing it (bits of food, office supplies, car parts…):
stachetrash

Stache Mash: A special sub-category of Stache Trash that happens when I eat mashed potatoes:
stachemash
Stache Smash: This happened the other day during a Stache Clash – I got punched for looking so creepy:
stachesmash
The end is near though.  I get to shave on Saturday, Dec. 13th at the final Stache Bash! I can’t wait.
Thanks again for all of your support in these difficult mustache times.
Humiliatingly,

Bruce

here’s a clip from facebook of one of our national organizers :

Greetings Stachistas,

Isn’t StacheBook the best? Where else would lovers of facial hair and charity be able to join together in a virtual computer land to celebrate the joys and challenges of Mustache growth and altruism? While our StacheBook Whisker Widget is still in development, we’re happy to report that you can get your follicular fix IN THE REAL WORLD.

That’s right, in a few weeks, Mustaches for Kids chapters across the US and Canada (Canada!) will be kicking off their Growing Seasons with Shaving Day 2009/10. Brave Growers will be growing totally sweet ’staches for four weeks, all the while soliciting pledges from friends, family, and co-workers. It’s kind of like running a marathon, but without the exertion or chafed nipples. Call it a facial hair marathon.

We are thrilled to report that most of our chapters will be growing Mustaches to benefit local classroom projects posted on DonorsChoose.org, meaning that our facial hair has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of public school students in our communities. Please take a moment to see if your city is listed in the “Posted Items” section at the bottom of our group page. If it is, you should totally be friends, so you can stay up to date on Mustache happenings near you and, if you are so moved, become a Grower.

We know this is all overwhelming right now and that reading about Mustaches and charity probably brings about mixed emotions. Don’t worry; that’s natural. The Kubler-Ross Stages of ‘Stache cycle is well-documented, and you will find that you go through curiosity, excitement, revulsion, arousal, lightheadedness, and finally, GROWTH. But believe us when we say that it’s worth the journey.

Please feel free to invite anyone you know to join our various StacheBook groups. M4K relies on word-of-’stache enthusiasm to spread the love. I mean, it’s not like Oprah is banging down our door.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Big scratchy mustache kisses all around.

Namastache,
M4K
